Reply to 1# 366501212: Catalyst regeneration involves burning off impurities such as gums and asphaltenes within the catalyst at high temperatures of 500–550 degrees Celsius. These impurities are usually turned into powder form, and then further processed through purging or screening. In fixed-bed reactors, catalyst regeneration is generally carried out outside the reactor; in a few cases, it can be done inside the reactor. The catalytic condensation unit in our facility uses a fixed-bed reactor with in-reactor circulation for regeneration of the coked material; generally, regeneration is required every two months. However, in-reactor regeneration has its drawbacks – the powdered substances such as iron oxide that are formed as a result of coking are not easy to remove. As a result, repeated in-reactor regeneration leads to an increase in the reactor’s pressure drop, and it also affects the catalyst’s activity. Therefore, it is necessary to remove the catalyst and screen it once every year or so.
During the reaction process, the catalyst surface becomes covered with impurities such as coking, and its active sites are occupied by catalyst poisons, causing the catalyst to lose its activity.
