The dry acetylene process is a new type of environmentally friendly process that has been developed in China in recent years. To ensure the smooth implementation of the dry acetylene process, it is necessary to improve the calcium carbide crushing process used in the traditional wet process. In the traditional dry ethylene process, the crushing of calcium carbide is generally carried out using two-stage jaw crushers, resulting in a relatively large particle size of the crushed calcium carbide. However, in the new dry-process acetylene process, it is required that calcium carbide be crushed to below 3 millimeters so that it can react completely with water in a specific proportion within the generator, thereby enabling the waste residue to achieve the desired \"dry\" state. Therefore, what kind of crushing equipment we use is a crucial issue. To achieve the fine crushing of calcium carbide, we adopted a process configuration consisting of two stages of jaw crushing and a third stage of fine crushing. For this purpose, the PX-J high-efficiency fine crusher and the PM grinder were used as the crushing machines, and research and discussion were carried out on the practical application of these two types of machines. The raw material in the dry acetylene process is synthetically produced calcium carbide, which contains certain metal components – a problem that does not occur with ordinary crushing machinery. Secondly, calcium carbide easily reacts with the moisture in the air to produce flammable and explosive acetylene gas, a problem that is not encountered in ordinary crushing machinery. Finally, the particle size of the crushed material must be extremely precise, as it is fed directly into the generator for chemical reactions after being finely crushed and screened. Therefore, we must ensure proper iron removal during the crushing process, maintain the sealing of the crushing equipment, and guarantee the crushing output. First, we explore the use of the PX-J high-efficiency crusher in calcium carbide crushing. The crushing capacity of the PX-J high-efficiency crusher has been proven in practice to be superior to that of hammer crushers. However, due to the use of a screen plate and screen slit structure at the bottom of the PX-J high-efficiency crusher, and the presence of a certain proportion of metals in calcium carbide, blockages occurred in the screen plate during the crushing process. The blockage of the sieve gaps in the sieve plates directly leads to a sharp decrease in production capacity, affecting the normal operation of the production line. Attempting to resolve blockages by widening the sieve gaps led to an **increase in the proportion of backflow material, which in turn imposed crushing pressure on the crusher. Therefore, in the process configuration, a very strict iron removal step is implemented before the crusher in order to minimize the amount of metal in the material as much as possible. After the iron removal process was improved, the performance of the PX-J high-efficiency crusher was enhanced significantly, and it could basically meet the process requirements. Once again, we explore the use of PM mills in calcium carbide. The use of PM mills is quite ideal, as two factors are met. Firstly, calcium carbide has low hardness and high brittleness, making it easy to break. Secondly, the grinder does not have a bottom screen plate, so there is no issue of material blockage. Therefore, its performance is highly satisfactory; it fully meets the requirements for crushing calcium carbide in dry acetylene production processes. It can be considered the most mature and optimal calcium carbide crushing equipment currently available in China’s dry acetylene industry.
