Validity period of combustible gas alarm probes

I would like to ask fellow sailors: What is the reaction principle of catalytic combustion-type combustible gas detectors, and is it reversible? What is the general valid usage period of a probe? Thank you!

Principle of catalytic combustion: Two platinum wires are used, one serving as a standard, and the other coming into contact with combustible gases to produce an oxidation-based flameless combustion; the heat generated causes a change in the resistance of the platinum wire. Under normal conditions, it can be used for 3–5 years, but harsh environments may cause the probe to become contaminated, thereby shortening its lifespan; generally, it needs to be replaced every 1–2 years. According to standards, the probe must be calibrated at least once every 3 months, and if it passes the calibration, it can continue to be used.
Due to lifespan issues, spare parts for probes are a problem; the time it takes for new ones to stop working is much longer than their natural lifespan
The principle is not clear; the validity period generally requires testing once a year! ! If the detection fails, the circuit board inside must be replaced! ! !
Generally, the sensor is replaced every year or so, and it is calibrated once every six months
Generally, regular maintenance is sufficient during periods of downtime; if that isn’t enough, replace it – a major replacement every 2 years!

There are two types of poisoning that can occur: in one case, certain substances in the gas, such as lead-containing organic compounds, react with the catalytic material to form new substances, thereby hindering the catalytic combustion process; this type of poisoning is irreversible； There is also poisoning caused by halides and the like; this type is reversible and can be reversed after air flushing.
I’ve seen several of them, and regardless of their quality, they all state a lifespan of 3 years.
