In the design of building structures, when the basic assumptions are not entirely correct, it is completely futile to spend a lot of time trying to find precise answers. Correct judgment plays an equally important role in the safety, economic efficiency, and design calculations of structures. Although modern design is constrained by regulatory provisions, designers must use their thinking and judgment to understand their content and grasp their true meaning, rather than merely meeting the minimum requirements allowed. The best calculation method known to engineers should be the simplest and most straightforward one. Avoid using calculation methods with ambiguous concepts.
Standards are a summary of past experiences; as society develops and technology advances, the provisions in these standards represent only the minimum requirements for that technological field at the current stage. “Safe and suitable, technologically advanced, cost-effective, quality guaranteed, and easy to construct. ”——The content stated in Article 1 of the general provisions for each specification is always along these lines. What we structural engineers need to do is build on the work of our predecessors and, by relying on relevant standards, improve the quality of structural design. Perhaps in the near future, the experience we gain on our own will also be reflected in the guidelines :)
