The primary cooler has not had any problems yet; it’s not clear what could be causing that. Regarding this issue, as an on-site operator, I would like to add a few points: the primary cooler contains concentrated sulfuric acid (I have mentioned this issue on the forum before); The operating pressure for primary chlorine is around 40 to 50 KPa, with the temperature controlled at around 70 degrees; the water pressure is approximately 10 to 30 KPa. For secondary chlorine, the pressure is around 135 to 155 KPa (sometimes it can reach 160 KPa plus or minus 5 KPa), while the water pressure remains at around 10 to 30 KPa, with the temperature controlled between 85 and 90 degrees ; In my opinion, there are several possible reasons: 1. Problems with the material used for the cooler itself, or rather, the poor quality of the manufacturer; this cooler isn’t produced by 3K Company but is domestically manufactured (from Guilin). 2. The pressure difference between chlorine and water is too high – why doesn’t it leak at the first stage, but leaks at the second stage? (I think it’s sulfuric acid at the first stage.) 3. It’s caused by the condensing acid
The leak is at the weld of the water pipe; I heard that once it cracked in the middle of the pipe (I wasn’t on duty at that time)
Is the chlorine gas compressor a turbo compressor or a concentrated sulfuric acid liquid ring pump? A water content of 110 ppm in chlorine is acceptable; it should be less than 200 ppm. There’s a crack in the water pipe. According to process requirements, the air pressure must be greater than the water pressure; thus, chlorine gas can only enter the cooling water. As a result, the online analyzer for chlorine content in the water shows an increase.
