In my company, the superheated steam is produced at a distance from the users; it needs to be superheated further. The temperature of the 2.5 MPa, 20-ton steam should be increased from 330 degrees to 380 degrees, while the temperature of the process gas, which is at 60 MPa and 40 WNm3/h, should be reduced from 450 degrees to 445 degrees. If a shell-and-tube heat exchanger is used, with the gas flowing in the shell side and the steam in the tube side, the steam can undergo multiple deflections, which facilitates heat exchange. However, the high pressure in the shell side may result in higher equipment costs. When gas flows in the shell side or the tube side, too many baffles in the shell side make processing difficult. Plate heat exchangers are not very suitable when the pressure is too high. Tubular heat exchangers are still the suitable choice

Removable-plate type is absolutely not acceptable; it is recommended to use finned heat exchangers, that is, heat exchangers with fins. If that’s not possible, then fully welded heat exchangers should be used.
