This post was last edited by hesonchang214 on 2012-3-18 20:04. A mixed-bed refers to a processor composed of both cations and anions. A separate-bed system consists of processors made up of cations and anions separately, which are used in series!

Currently, there is no clear classification for the use of ion exchange multiplex beds. The so-called double-bed process is a desalination method that combines a cation exchanger and an anion exchanger. As for the different requirements regarding water quality, adding a carbon removal unit and an intermediate water tank between the two exchangers does not change the principle of the process. So I think it’s better to classify them by double beds.
Reply to 3# penryn: Count! The purpose of doing this is merely to reduce the load on the time-bed and extend the operating cycle of the bed. However, this is usually not done. Generally, the effluent from the anion exchange column flows directly into the cathion exchange column, while the effluent from the cathion exchange column goes directly into the mixed-bed reactor for SIO2 removal.
