In industrial buildings, some of which are framed steel structure buildings, can the illumination provided by 45W energy-saving lamps replace that of 100W metal halide lamps? Thank you, please give me some advice!
No, factories generally use fewer energy-saving lights. Some factory buildings simply cannot use energy-saving lights!
In my experience, compact fluorescent lamps seem to be better than metal halide lamps – they don’t require a rectifier and are less likely to break. And I just replaced the bulbs in the factory lights with metal halide lamps.

Especially at an industrial level, the requirements for illuminance are quite high, particularly in cases where manual color identification is necessary
The poster should mention what the ceiling height is, to see if it meets the illumination requirements. Also, what’s the environment like? Is it heavily polluted?
Generally, it’s not possible. Metal halide lamps and energy-saving lamps have similar efficiency; better energy-saving lamps are about 20% more efficient than metal halide lamps. If you really need detailed figures, it’s best to specify the environment and requirements as mentioned above, and people can help you calculate them.

The key factor is illuminance; I once considered discussing with the design firm the possibility of replacing the metal halide lamps they designed with energy-saving lamps. Their response was that for distances over 4.5 meters, the illuminance provided by energy-saving lamps is not sufficient at the working surface.
We are in the chemical production area, where the lighting requirements are not very high; at most, we need to turn valves and check the instruments on site.

Metal halide lamps usually also come with ballasts; their cost isn’t necessarily much lower, and repairing them is troublesome as well.
What the design institute said does make some sense. Energy conservation is one aspect; what’s more important is to consider the issue of illuminance. Especially for high-rise factory buildings, metal halide lamps are recommended.
