When the compressor coupling is connected rigidly, how should the axial clearance be determined? Is it adjusted based on the bearing clearance or the motor?
1: Adjust according to the compressor bearing clearance and level. 2: Adjust according to the compressor motor base. 3: Measure using a feeler gauge
The tolerance is determined based on the rotational speed; generally, the tolerance range is specified in the operating instructions provided with rotating machinery, and it is using this tolerance that the coupling can be adjusted. The adjustment method can be the straightedge method/dial gauge method ; Dial indicator method ; Laser alignment is the most precise method for centering, but it is also the most expensive. Taking a piston compressor as an example, the connection method is the same as that of turbines and generators in power plants: 1. Determine the position of the motor’s magnetic center; this information is provided on the motor’s nameplate. For safety reasons, it is best to start the motor and make a note of the position to determine its axial alignment. 2. Determine the axial position of the compressor. For piston engines, the crankshaft should be located at the midpoint of the thrust bearings, that is, at its mounting position. 3. For piston machines, the thickness of the flywheel must be determined, and the distance between the two couplings must be calculated. When aligning the machine, it is best to fix the motor axially using two set screws, in order to prevent excessive changes in the axial distance. 4. Align the three gauges with as high precision as possible; generally, the accuracy should be within 0.04 mm ; The rotation direction is the operating direction of the compressor. Special note: The coupling rotates synchronously at a fixed position, which is the installation location; be sure to make a mark there. It is best not to misalign during installation, as it has a hollow hinge design and proper alignment is crucial. 5. Reset and install. During the initial installation, it should be reamed out, and the position of each bolt should not be changed during subsequent use. After sufficient use, the bolts should be subject to flaw detection inspection.
I posted a thread on the methods and standards for aligning motor couplings; I hope it can help you!
What was mentioned on the 4th floor is classic, but when connecting the couplings, pay attention to the clearance at the openings as well as the axial play!
