I’m new to work related to pipelines, and regarding the process of batch reactions, how should the pipe diameter be determined? What are the main influencing factors? Let’s communicate more and make progress together.
My impression: The selection of pipe diameter is related to the design flow rate and design velocity; pressure difference also affects the velocity, so factors such as pipeline length and flow resistance come into play as well. It generally has nothing to do with your response pattern
The selection of the pipe diameter should have nothing to do with the reaction; it depends on what the flow velocity and flow rate are.
However, unlike continuous reactions, intermittent reactions allow for material balance based on the output, after which the flow rate can be determined, and subsequently the pipe diameter. The batch reaction mainly involves transferring the material from one reactor to another after one batch is completed. I think it is related to the time designated for transferring between reactors, but I’m not sure what values are typically used in engineering design Is it provided by the owner themselves?
Determining the feeding and discharging times is a key parameter.
The pipes used in intermittent reactions are mostly for material transfer, and their selection is determined based on the required transfer speed and the dimensions of the relevant connections. Additionally, if the material is viscous, the pipe diameter should be increased.
