Setting of the number of intercoolers in ammonia synthesis

As the title suggests, some systems have one cold interstage, while others have two. What is the reason for this?
I have never seen an ammonia synthesis system equipped with two heat exchangers; usually, one heat exchanger is sufficient for such a system. The use of two heat exchangers as mentioned by the original poster is likely due to design considerations, with the aim of improving the efficiency of heat recovery.
Is it necessary to install two heat and cold exchangers? As for the two heat exchangers mentioned by the original poster, it might be due to limitations in their design – one of them has an insufficient heat exchange area – and this is probably a result of making rational use of existing equipment; the goal is simply to increase the recovery of heat and cold energy.
Generally, one heat exchanger is designed; if two are designed, the equipment investment increases, and the complexity of pipeline installation and equipment layout on site rises as well.
Reply 1# sinxjh: Is it because the cooling capacity does not match the system’s requirements (the heat exchange area of the cooling units is insufficient when upgrading the system using old equipment)? Should two units be used in parallel to achieve the desired effect?
