Our factory requires a pump with an outlet flow rate of 22 m³/h, a head of 1000 m, and an outlet pressure of 9.95 Mpa. The fluid to be pumped is alkaline wastewater at a temperature of 65 degrees. Could anyone please help suggest which type of pump would be suitable for this application? Thank you!
There are many manufacturers of such multi-stage pumps. They offer low flow rates but high head; the number of impeller stages is usually around 8 or 9. These are mature technologies, and the fluid involved doesn’t contain many particles, so a balance drum structure is generally sufficient. The other consideration is the choice of materials.

I’ll answer regarding the rotary vane pumps mentioned above. We currently have 4 of these pumps in use, each representing a different stage of technological development. The first two pumps had a flow rate of around 8 tons per hour and a head of 650 meters; they represented the initial technical level of such pumps, and they had many problems – primarily severe vibration. The vibration issue was later resolved, but these pumps were prone to leakage, and the seals used were expensive, costing 8,000 per set. The latter two pumps had a lower head and smaller flow rate, but they operated relatively smoothly. After all, they were purchased several years later, yet they still suffered from leakage problems. The problem is that the seals for these two pumps were even more expensive, as they used double-seal designs, costing 30,000 per set. It’s possible to afford to purchase them, but not to afford their repairs. I’m not sure what level of maturity technology has reached nowadays
Hehe, the high-pressure pumps in my company can reach up to 280 kilograms of pressure; I just don’t know what type of pumps they are…

Under no circumstances use a plunger pump – the pressure is too high and the flow rate is too large. With a plunger pump, the lifespan of its components is very short, especially parts such as the plunger, packing, and bearing shells; there are too many problems associated with it. Try to avoid using rotary vane pumps as well; the technology related to such pumps in China is not yet mature, making them unreliable in use. It is still safer to use mature domestic technologies, such as multi-stage pumps or high-speed pumps.
