Is the combined alkali method still used for starting up the process? How long does it generally take to reach equilibrium (when water and salt are added to the salting-out crystallizer)? Is this method no longer employed these days?

In recent years, caustic soda plants have generally been expanded; they have existing systems along with mother liquors, which makes things quite convenient and the process goes fast. If it’s a new plant, there’s no choice but to follow the standard procedures step by step
I’ve done it once; first, the mother liquor is prepared. By the time the heavy alkalis are used to produce the product, it still takes several days to adjust the solid-liquid ratio for the wet ammonium!
