Is it necessary to use steam purging for the Texaco gasifier burner? I’ve seen that in some old plants, the oxygen and slurry pipelines at the burners are purged with steam, but in the new designs there is almost no steam used. Let’s discuss whether it’s really necessary to use steam again
Our unit also discussed this issue during the gasification design phase. Steam purging is primarily used after shutdown to prevent the slurry in the slurry channel from sticking and causing blockages. However, introducing steam all the way up to the stove top presents many inconveniences; there is also limited space above, and it’s not possible to do it in a timely manner during actual operation. It also increases safety risks. Upon further consideration, if a blockage occurs, it is also feasible to use a hose to introduce steam for purging after removing the parking burner.
Our plant used steam purging only once during the initial startup, and hasn’t used it since; it’s just too troublesome
I feel it is still safe and convenient. I am currently studying abroad; the steam used in my employer’s factory is superheated steam at 4.0 MPA. Blowing is performed each time after shutdown before removing the burner, and blowing is also carried out before replacing the burner with one designed for a different process.
