Though the tiger is gone, its might endures; with the rabbit’s arrival, fortune grows even brighter. In the blink of an eye, the Spring Festival of 2011 was spent in joy and harmony. But the idioms related to rabbits kept echoing in my ears. Especially the proverb \"Rabbits don’t eat the grass near their burrow.\" “The saying “Rabbits don’t eat the grass near their burrows” can now be fully understood as an indication of rabbits’ innate environmental awareness – an understanding of how to protect their surrounding living environment. Shouldn’t we humans, faced with today’s natural environment, reflect on this and learn from it? The environment in which we live used to be beautiful, with lush mountains and clear waters as well as fresh air. However, over the past few decades, in order to earn more money, to have better food, better clothing, and better housing, as well as to boost GDP as a measure of political success, we have consumed excessive resources and emitted too much waste into the environment. On the surface, in the face of our strong impulse to bring about dramatic changes, the environment can only endure silently! When we think that our lives are becoming more prosperous day by day, if we look around, how many skies are blue these days? How many rivers are clear? How many square kilometers of air are unpolluted? At the recently concluded Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, so many high-ranking officials from around the world set aside all other important matters and gathered together to argue loudly – isn’t it because global warming is already threatening human survival? Rabbits are environmentally friendly and do not eat the grass near their burrows. Now people have realized the serious consequences of environmental degradation. People have shifted their pursuit from having enough to eat and wear to blue skies and green waters. It is foreseeable that there will be two strict environmental protection targets during the 11th Five-Year Plan period, and this number will increase to four during the 12th Five-Year Plan period. In subsequent five-year plans as well, there will be an increasing number of such strict environmental protection targets. I believe it won’t be long before everyone will have an innate environmental awareness akin to that of rabbits, and become environmentalists.

What we need to do is, on the one hand, reduce environmental damage, and on the other hand, improve the efficient use of existing energy sources. For example, wastewater at 40°C is of little use to many companies, so it is discharged directly; yet this wastewater contains a great deal of heat, and the benefits that can be derived from it are substantial. There’s also exhaust gas, cylinder liner water, circulating cooling water, high-temperature oil, and so on – companies that make use of these resources consciously will truly be fortunate!
Our enterprises deal with coarse grains, produce refined grains, and manufacture high-quality steamed buns for export. Those from outside don’t want to use what’s readily available around them; they come to us instead, yet still blame us. . . . :Q

True environmentalists strive to help the grass grow better – for example, by applying manure in areas where the grass is not as thick, so that the grass roots are not destroyed. By eating some parts of the grass today and others tomorrow, they ensure that the grass remains lush; this is what true environmentalism entails……
