Has anyone encountered the crystallization problem in the breather valves of phenol storage tanks, and how was it resolved?
The freezing point of phenol is 43 degrees Celsius; therefore, it needs to be stored in a heated environment in the southern regions. This makes crystallization of the breathing valve a common issue, posing a risk. There are many such accidents in this industry; therefore, some of our smaller storage facilities remove the valve elements of the breathing valves, allowing the pressure inside the tanks to be in direct contact with the atmospheric pressure. Such cases are quite common among us. However, phenol is highly toxic. Considering environmental protection and the requirements of the product’s properties, we recommend using a nitrogen seal combined with a water seal. The water seal tube leading from the top of the tank needs to be heated; after feeding begins, nitrogen should be used to purge the system every 3 days, in order to reduce the vapor concentration in the tank and within the water seal tube and thus minimize the risk of crystallization. In addition, the breather valve, foam outlet, nitrogen seal, and gas phase port all need to be included in the inspection.
I don’t quite understand nitrogen displacement. Should nitrogen be used to displace the phenol vapor in the water seal?
Reply to 3#: For storing and transporting primary school students, the existing nitrogen sealing system of the storage tank is utilized; nitrogen is periodically introduced into the tank in an amount equivalent to 2-3 times its volume, depending on the current space available in the tank, thereby reducing the vapor concentration at the top of the tank and within the water seal tube.
We are currently using copper tubes to wrap around the breathing valve interface and radar interface and then heating them; rock wool is used for insulation on the outside, and the results are quite good. Of course, the flame arrestor screen must be removed; otherwise, aggregation is likely to occur
No breathing valve is needed for bending the neck and direct connection to the atmosphere. It wasn’t done with nitrogen sealing and water sealing either before
I would like to ask whether the 200-cubic-meter phenol storage tanks in the south are heated from the outside using hot water or steam, and how is the heating requirement calculated?
Doing this would pose problems in terms of environmental protection, occupational health, and product damage. . .
