Dear fellow sailors, I’ve noticed that in many cases the pipes ahead of centrifugal pumps have a diameter smaller than that of the pump’s connection port; these pipes are connected to the pump using reducer fittings. Why is it necessary for the pipes ahead of the pump to be narrower? Thank you so much! ! !
The inlet pressure of the pump is high, or the inlet pipeline of the pump is at a high level.

I don’t think so; generally, the inlet pipe seems to need to be larger than the pump’s inlet in order to reduce resistance and prevent cavitation
It’s absolutely true; I’ve seen many centrifugal pumps designed in this way.
The original poster got it backwards. . Generally, the inlet pipe should be larger than the pump inlet to enable the pump to draw in the material more effectively.
I’m not quite sure; it seems to me that the pump is manufactured according to standards, as it is a standard component designed to facilitate the connection of pipelines of different types.

There’s no mistaking it; I’ve watched it so many times. I still find it rather confusing.
The inlet of the pipeline should be greater than or equal to the pump inlet to ensure proper suction of the medium
I found that the output pipeline is larger than the pump outlet, so a reducer is needed to make the connection!
