I’m a beginner in the chemical engineering field; I study polymers. My company assigned me the task of creating a chemical process design flowchart, performing material and heat balances, as well as determining the piping layout. I’m completely confused right now and don’t know where to start? I would like to ask the members of this forum how to get started? I need to read those books and materials! Thank you!
First, take a look at how others have designed it, then imitate their approach and add your own creativity
In your case, this probably doesn’t qualify as genuine chemical engineering design; rather, your company has assigned you a task to draw a few diagrams and perform calculations related to the production processes and equipment. Personally, I suggest you first understand the production processes and conditions, and then draw a simple flowchart! Finally, material calculations and heat balance calculations are performed according to the corresponding formulas; generally, these calculations can be carried out using principles of chemical engineering and chemical thermodynamics. If it’s a design project, you have to consider the production package first; it’s very complicated!
