I have a question: if I place a mixture of methanol and water in a reactor and heat it to 80 degrees Celsius, and if I install a plate column on top of the reactor without using a cooler, will what comes out of the top of the plate column be steam containing a mixture of methanol and water? ?

It should be methanol vapor and water vapor; the best way to separate methanol from water is still by using a distillation tower!

Reply to 6# aiqingbushibing: Methanol has a lower boiling point than water. If water is to be removed during the esterification process, there is no need to install an additional tray. Although this tray is less efficient, it still serves as one tray; by installing it in this way, the mixture at the top of the tower contains a higher proportion of methanol, which in turn reduces the amount of water that is carried away.
It depends on what the pressure is. If the pressure is increased, then the top of the tower might be filled with methanol vapor.
