For measuring superheated steam at 450°, is it better to use an orifice plate with a differential pressure transmitter, or a vortex flow meter with temperature and pressure compensation? Or there are other good watches as well
Use vortex flow meters; although they may be more expensive, they are easier to install and maintain, and offer higher measurement accuracy.
1. High-temperature vortex flowmeters are used; the converter and the sensing tube are designed as separate components. Some models come equipped with built-in temperature or pressure sensors. Although their price is slightly higher, they are easy to install and maintain. 2. Orifice plates or other differential pressure flowmeters can be used; they are slightly cheaper, but their measurement accuracy is somewhat lower, and their installation and maintenance are less convenient.
In my opinion, if the requirements are not very high and there are no other impurities in the steam that could cause blockages, it is recommended to use orifice plates. They have proven to be reliable over time!
It’s better to use vortex flow meters; adding a flow meter also allows for heat measurement!
A steam temperature of 450 degrees is too high; using a vortex flow meter may not be safe, as the small probe used for sampling the vortex frequency could get damaged. For measuring steam flow at temperatures above 300 degrees, it is recommended to use orifice plates or other types of flow restrictors, as they are durable.
Orifice plates have slightly lower precision, require heating in winter, and involve a lot of maintenance work. Wedge flow meters can also be used; however, split-type vortex flow meters are preferable.
