Experienced fitters sometimes find a stethoscope to be more effective than testing equipment; there are no fixed standards, and most fitters make their own stethoscopes as long as they work well. I’ve also never heard of anyone developing an occupational disease from using stethoscopes.
If it reaches this state, the device is basically unusable; there’s no point in using its needle anymore!
I know some workers who are engaged in mechanical maintenance or inspection; they suffer from severe hearing loss, especially in the high-frequency range. Some of them can stand next to fans without really noticing the noise produced by those fans, although their hearing in the speech frequency range is normal. I think you wouldn’t even be able to detect any noise even when standing next to the fan; it seems like a sound detector wouldn’t be very useful either. Using such a tool to check the equipment probably wouldn’t reveal any issues.

Usually, people just use steel pipes or rods of appropriate length and diameter that are readily available, and if no such tools are at hand, a screwdriver will do just as well. One must take care of their hearing on their own; try not to spend too much time in areas with loud equipment. During inspections and on-site repairs that are necessary, it is important to keep moving the mouth ; Talking, humming, being in a half-asleep state, chewing gum, using earplugs, and so on.
