Our company’s current project is in progress, and the design institute selected a plug valve as the control valve for dilute phosphoric acid in the design documents. The operating temperature is 35 degrees Celsius, with a pressure of 0.45 MPa before the valve and 0.4 MPa after it; the pipe diameter is DN150. In my opinion, a single-seat control valve would be more suitable for this application, but the design institute chose a plug valve. Could everyone please explain the differences in the situations where each type of valve is appropriate? Thank you
Plug valves can be used with media that are prone to crystallization or contain impurities; generally, the pressure difference should not be too high; Single-seat valves can only be used with relatively clean media, and they can operate under high pressure differences ; This is the most obvious difference between these two types of valves; personally, I think a plug valve is a viable option, while for single-seat valves, the concentration of phosphoric acid should be taken into consideration.
Thank you for the guidance above. Actually, in terms of valve types, I also believe that both types of valves are feasible. However, from a cost perspective, I personally prefer the single-seat valve. (Since this is dilute phosphoric acid, the likelihood of crystallization isn’t very high; nevertheless, the price of a single-seat valve is significantly lower than that of a plug valve.)
With such a large caliber, the price shouldn’t be that high, right? However, it’s cheaper just because it has a single seat; but the configuration still matters! !
