What is the main function of premolybdenum? Is it just hydrogenation? Also, what is the impact of the catalyst loading amount on the height-to-diameter ratio?
Pre-iron molybdenum (some units refer to it as “pre-hydrogenation”); this tank is relatively small – our plant has one with a capacity of around 3 cubic meters. Its function is to control the temperature of the gas entering the first stage of hydrogenation, by regulating the temperature at the outlet of the pre-hydrogenation process. For example, to carry out precise desulfurization, the process needs to be started; usually, venting is done after pre-hydrogenation, and once the temperature from pre-hydrogenation rises, subsequent systems such as primary hydrogenation are connected in sequence! In this way, the temperature of the first-stage hydrogenation is easier to control, which is excellent for the lifespan of the catalyst used in the first-stage hydrogenation!
The function of the pre-iron-molybdenum catalyst is to convert organic sulfur into inorganic sulfur and unsaturated hydrocarbons into saturated hydrocarbons. It is placed before the iron-molybdenum catalyst in order to protect it; it is possible to replace this catalyst during production without having to stop the process. Usually, there are two to three such catalysts available for alternating use, which also helps to maintain a stable temperature during desulfurization. In case of overheating, it can be addressed promptly, preventing the entire desulfurization process from becoming overheated.
