Dear colleagues: For a new project of our company, one of the products requires propylene crystallization, and hydrochloric acid needs to be added to the rinsing solution. What safety parameters should be considered when using a lined centrifuge for this process? Considering the versatility of the equipment, can a lined centrifuge be used for rinsing another product with dichloromethane?
Plastic-lined centrifuges, to be honest, have a limited lifespan as the plastic lining tends to wear out easily. Moreover, dichloromethane causes swelling in the vast majority of plastics; once swollen, the plastic lining tends to peel off easily, and I believe it is not suitable for use. If the rinsing solution contains no water, then its corrosive effect on metals will **be reduced**. Our factory uses an alcohol-based HCl solution with a pH of 2 in centrifuges made of 304 stainless steel on a regular basis, and no issues have been detected through inspections. If it contains water, at room temperature, titanium can tolerate 5% hydrochloric acid; the corrosion rate of 316 is higher
