Questions about vertical pumps and horizontal pumps

I would like to ask the teachers: apart from the situations where submersible pumps or pipeline pumps are required, in what other cases are vertical pumps needed? We have a vertical multi-stage centrifugal pump (not a pipeline pump or submersible pump; it is used to transfer tar from storage tanks to hot oil furnaces). The medium being transported is tar, and because it is vertical, maintenance of it is rather complicated. I wonder why a vertical pump was chosen for this purpose
Vertical pumps are commonly used in pumps that require low flow rates but high head, such as multi-stage pumps, and they take up less space； Horizontal pumps generally have a large flow rate and are easy to disassemble and maintain. Chemical plants generally use horizontal pumps.
I agree with what was said above: vertical pumps, thanks to their better balance compared to horizontal pumps, can operate at higher speeds and achieve higher head pressures, and their bearings, seals, etc. have a relatively longer lifespan!
