Can phosphorus trichloride be transported and stored in containers? What are the storage conditions? What material is used for the delivery pipes?
Phosphorus trichloride is extremely corrosive and toxic; it is not convenient to transport it in tank trucks, so PE drums are generally used. Ordinary metal materials are not suitable; lined plastics tend to come off due to the large diameter of tank trucks, so they are not appropriate. Enameled materials work well, but they are vulnerable to collisions, posing a higher risk during transportation. For storage, use enamelled materials (though they are more expensive); if the volume is small, plastic materials can also be used. Pipes made of PE, PP, etc., are an option as they are both inexpensive and effective

Phosphorus trichloride emits intense fumes in humid air, hydrolyzes to phosphoric acid and hydrogen chloride, and further forms HP2O4Cl3; it is corrosive to many metals, especially under humid conditions. The packaging must be sealed to prevent contact with air. It is recommended to use plastic drums for storage and transportation, but closed thick steel drums are also used. Direct tank transportation seems not feasible. It is recommended not to use stainless steel for the pipelines; it’s better to have an inner lining
We did produce several 20-cubic-meter transport tankers for a company in Xinjiang; they’ve been using them with no problems at all
