Hello everyone. Our plant is currently carrying out maintenance on a 330,000-ton sulfuric acid production facility. While maintaining the boiler drum, we found a significant amount of \"red mud\" at the bottom of the drum. I would like to ask everyone what this is
Iron oxides resulting from corrosion due to the low pH level of the boiler water
There are issues with boiler water quality: the pH level is too low and the silica content is too high.
It might be due to problems with the quality of the water used for addition; perhaps the suspended solids in the water are above the acceptable level, or the water is not alkaline enough, which leads to rust formation.
It is likely due to improper water quality control, with a low pH level. However, slag is found inside our company’s boiler drum during each maintenance check; it seems to be related to scaling. Do any of you have any suggestions?
Two aspects: 1. Water quality issues – the control of alkalinity and phosphate levels is not up to standard; 2. Operators do not discharge waste in a timely manner
Reply 1# human2: There may be an issue with deoxidation of the boiler feed water; excessive dissolved oxygen is causing oxidation in the steam drum.
It is mainly iron oxides and calcium-magnesium precipitates formed after adding trisodium phosphate. The reason for the large accumulation may be blocked sewage pipes or untimely sewage disposal.
The water in the evaporator suddenly turned into “ice boba” without any warning. I was quite scared at the time, thinking it might be corrosion or something similar; but after following manager Yiyunjin’s advice to increase the wastewater discharge volume, things returned to normal after two shifts.
