The flue gas desulfurization project for the technological upgrade of copper smelting processes at Tongling Non-ferrous Metals is located within the city’s Circular Economy Industrial Pilot Park. It covers an area of 30,000 square meters, with a total investment of 298.95 million yuan, of which 291.37 million yuan is allocated to fixed asset investments; The construction period for the project was 36 months. Construction began in July 2010, and the plant was completed and put into operation in the first half of 2013. It has an annual production capacity of 1.4539 million tons of sulfuric acid ; It is estimated that annual sales revenue will amount to 436.18 million yuan, additional taxes and fees will be 43.45 million yuan, and the after-tax profit will be 57.21 million yuan. Based on the introduction and assimilation of advanced foreign technologies, this project employs a “non-equilibrium” high-concentration conversion process and a process for direct acid production from anode refining flue gas to effectively desulfurize copper smelting and sulfuric acid tail gases, thereby producing sulfuric acid. Compared with the current conventional two-turn two-suction process along with the anode refining method that does not recover sulfur dioxide from flue gas, the annual sulfur dioxide emissions have decreased from 3,500 tons to 1,063 tons, resulting in a reduction of 2,437 tons in sulfur dioxide emissions; the overall emission volume has been cut by 69.6% ; The total sulfur recovery rate increased from 95% to 97.51%, while the overall sulfur capture rate reached 99.78%. The sulfur dioxide emissions per ton of cathode copper dropped from 21.9 kilograms to 2.67 kilograms, with continuous reductions in emissions achieved ; For each ton of sulfuric acid produced, the comprehensive energy consumption per unit of product decreases by 13.96 kilograms of standard coal; electricity usage is reduced by 117.25 kilowatt-hours, and water consumption is cut by 1.54 tons.
