What are the uses of light naphtha? Is it used as a chemical raw material?
It has many uses – it can be used as a raw material for ethylene, in aromatic extraction, and as a feedstock for reforming units!
Primary uses: It can separate various organic raw materials, such as gasoline, benzene, kerosene, asphalt, etc. Naphtha is a light petroleum product obtained by distilling crude oil or extracting the appropriate fractions through secondary petroleum processing. Its boiling point range depends on the requirements, and it usually has a wide boiling range, such as 30–220°C. Naphtha is an important raw material for producing ethylene and propylene through tubular furnace cracking, as well as benzene, toluene, and xylene through catalytic reforming. As a cracking feedstock, the naphtha composition is required to have an alkane and cycloalkane content of not less than 70% (by volume) ； When used as a feedstock for catalytic reforming to produce high-octane gasoline components, the feed is a wide-range fraction with a boiling point range of generally 80–180°C; whereas when used for producing aromatics, the feed is a narrow-range fraction with a boiling point range of 60–165°C.
