Reverse osmosis membranes or nanofiltration membranes are mainly used for concentration in plant extraction. The question now is: if the membrane is already somewhat contaminated, and two different cleaning processes are used for comparison, it turns out that the yield of products obtained using the cleaning process that yields better results is higher than that of the process with average results. I wonder whether this can be considered such a definition. Additional note: The membranes belong to the same group; the materials, concentration, temperature, and pressure before cleaning are basically the same or similar.
I think the possible reason is that the water flux is high, which is why you think the yield is high
Membrane-related methods are unstable and lack reproducibility; therefore, a single set of experiments cannot provide any meaningful insights. I recommend that those working with membranes conduct as many repeated experiments as possible. I felt quite uncertain when doing experiments back in the day
I agree with the opinion above; the poor repeatability of membrane experiments may also be due to different activation times for the membranes. However, membrane cleaning is mostly done using acid treatment, right?
It is certainly possible: a high membrane flux will lead to a decrease in the retention rate, while if the membrane is not clean enough, the retention rate will increase slightly
