Gentlemen, could you tell us what software is used for design work in your companies these days, and which ones are the most popular? Which is used the most: ASPEN PLUS, HYSYS, or PROⅡ? I want to learn craftsmanship
Aspen is the current mainstream software; HYSYS is now a module within Aspen. PROII leans towards practical application and experience, while Aspen focuses more on theory. Aspen also has a well-developed database.
If you want to learn process engineering, it’s best to start with principles of chemical engineering and physical chemistry; later on, you should study thermodynamics, reaction processes, mass transfer, and so on. It’s pointless to start learning software directly.
When it comes to refinery plant simulation, PROII is the best choice and also the most intuitive. Large refinery design institutes, such as those in Beijing and Luoyang, use PROII; it is the most popular software for refinery simulation.
