SUS316L is the designation used in the United States, while in China it is referred to as ooCr17Ni14Mo2. What do the 00 and the digits represent? And on what basis are the designations used in China and in the United States?
00 indicates stainless steel with a very low carbon content, with the carbon level being in the thousandths range. For example, 08 steel indicates a carbon content of 0.08%.

The notation method for stainless steel grades in domestic standards is: “percentage of carbon by thousandths . symbol of alloying element . percentage of alloying element content.” Stainless steels with a carbon content greater than 0.08% belong to the high-carbon category, and the prefix before the grade is “1”, such as 1Cr18Ni9Ti. Those with a carbon content of 0.08% or less have a prefix of “0”, such as 0Cr18Ni9 (304). Steels with a carbon content of 0.03% or less use the prefix “00”, such as 00Cr19Ni10 (304L). For steels with a carbon content of 0.01% or less, the prefix is “000”, such as 000Cr18Ni9
