Gentlemen, I work at a natural gas processing plant, and the centrifugal pumps there suffer from cavitation all the time. Does anyone know how to prevent cavitation? The most important thing is that the height of the tank is fixed, as is the installation height of the pump. The main way to avoid cavitation should be to increase the inlet pressure, right? How can the inlet pressure of a centrifugal pump be increased?
The tank is pressurized with compressed air or nitrogen
The main goal is to increase the operating pressure of the raw material tank before the pump; adding air won’t work, as a mixture of air and gas could lead to an explosion. Whether introducing nitrogen gas will affect subsequent processing, and how much investment is required, need to be determined by taking various factors into consideration. There is only one purpose: to increase the pressure in the raw material tank.
You can also use variable frequency to cool the material at the same time.
I would like to ask the original poster: who designed this? Then I will provide a solution.
Check whether the liquid level is too low; it’s possible to operate with a high liquid level in the tank, and increasing the diameter of the inlet pipe might help.
The above methods won’t work; don’t bother.
Increasing the pressure in the inlet container is the most direct way to raise the pump inlet pressure
There are several methods; choose one based on the specific circumstances: 1) Increase the operating pressure of the inlet tank (this requires consideration by the system); 2) Raise the operating liquid level in the inlet tank (the increase in pump inlet pressure is limited); 3) Replace the current pump inlet pipeline with one of larger diameter (this affects production if there is no backup pump); 4) Improve the layout of the pump suction pipeline (this also affects production if there is no backup pump); 5) Use a parallel pump suction pipeline (this is not very conventional).
