The workshop is an explosion-proof facility, and there are several pieces of equipment on the highest floor of the workshop. A new piece of equipment has been installed there, and its height exceeds that of the existing lightning rod. Principles for installing lightning rods: (1) There should be a distance of at least 5 meters between the independent lightning rod and the structure to be protected, in order to prevent backflow current when the lightning rod is struck by lightning. An independent lightning rod should be equipped with a separate grounding system, with a ground distance from the grounding grid of not less than 3 m. (2) Lightning rods should not be installed on the frames and rooftops of high-voltage distribution installations of 35 kV and below. The lightning rod installed on the framework should be connected to the grounding grid, and a centralized grounding device should be provided. (3) Lightning rods should not be installed on the door-type frame of the transformer. (4) The distance between lightning rods and grounding devices and roads as well as exits should be greater than 3 m; otherwise, a layer of gravel or asphalt 5–8 cm thick should be laid to protect people from the hazards of step voltage. (5) It is strictly prohibited to install overhead lighting wires, telephone lines, broadcasting lines, antennas, etc., on lightning rods or frameworks. (6) If lighting fixtures are installed on an independent lightning rod or frame, their power cables must be lead-coated cables or enclosed in steel pipes, and buried directly in the ground for a length of more than 10 meters. Leave some distance for independent installation; that’s when a lightning rod is installed. If you use a device holder, then congratulations, you have invented something new—a lightning rod.
