Dear experts, I was wondering what kind of valves are used at the inlet and outlet of the centrifugal pumps in distillation units. Especially for those with large diameter outlets of DN200 or more – our factory uses ordinary gate valves, which have not yet been put into use; moreover, they are installed at a high position. What kind of valves do you use at the outlet of your pumps? Could our current setup cause any difficulties in future operations?
We install it at a high position as well; usually, we step on the pipes and use an F wrench to turn it on and off! Fortunately, distillation is relatively stable; once it’s in operation, generally no adjustment to the pump is needed, only the outlet valve@
Gate valves definitely won’t work; ball valves are generally used, while globe valves are used for larger diameters.
