What is the future direction of this field? In the technical materials I’ve seen, distillation is mentioned as the method used, but there isn’t any specific information available. Reply to 1# clarify007: What the original poster refers to as liquefied oil separation is likely solid-liquid separation, that is, separating liquefied heavy oil from residues. The main methods currently used for solid-liquid separation are vacuum distillation and centrifugal separation. Vacuum distillation: Advantages include a large processing capacity and stable operation; disadvantages are that some heavy oil is lost in order to ensure the fluidity of the residue. Centrifugal separation: Advantages are high separation efficiency; disadvantages are that the operational characteristics of the materials make it somewhat difficult to use this technique on a large scale. Both the DCL process in Japan and that in the United States were considered, but in the end Shenhua Group opted for vacuum distillation.

I would also like to ask about the separation that takes place after this stage: that is, after the liquefied product has undergone initial gas-solid-liquid separation, hydrogenation and denitration are carried out sequentially, so what is the separation process like thereafter? What I read in the materials mentions separation, followed by the production of gasoline, diesel, and similar products; occasionally, distillation towers are mentioned.
