There is now a side-stream extraction tower; the reflux rate at the top of the tower is 21 t/h, while 6 t/h is extracted directly from the upper section of the tower via the side stream. Haiyou wonders whether the reflux ratio should be 21/6 = 3.5, or (21-6)/6 = 2.5 It’s still that side-line extraction tower; with a different set of conditions, the reflux rate at the top of the tower is 21 t/h, and the extraction rate via the side line is 6 t/h. However, there is an additional 1 t/h of flow exiting through the reflux tank at the top of the tower. So, do you consider the reflux ratio to be 21/1 = 21, or 21/(6+1) = 3, or (21-6)/(6+1) = 2.1? Please feel free to speak up, but don’t memorize by heart the definition of the reflux ratio, as that definition applies to columns from which liquid is drawn from the top.
On our side as well, there is a side stream taken from the top of the tower; the reflux amount is 73, and the amount taken via the side stream is 22. It seems difficult to explain this reflux ratio in normal terms. The precision required for our tower isn’t very high; it’s only used for separating the components, and it basically cannot achieve the effect of removing impurities
According to what we have learned, the reflux ratio = reflux volume/side stream yield. The first one should be 21/6=3.5 ; (21-1)/(6+1)=2.89
