Our company is working on a coal tar hydrogenation project, where 80% of the recycled hydrogen is mixed with fresh hydrogen before being fed into the hydrogenation reactor. Will this decrease in hydrogen concentration affect the hydrogenation reaction? Please advise, experts
It will definitely have an impact; a decrease in hydrogen purity means a decrease in the hydrogen-to-oil ratio. Your process technical specification should state at what level of hydrogen purity waste hydrogen must be discharged.
Reply to 2# laqiu1984120: The purity of the recycled hydrogen is directly related to the hydrogen partial pressure in the catalyst bed; it is an important process parameter. A purity level too low can cause the catalyst to become inactive – it should generally be at least 85%. Its purity must be monitored regularly. If it is below the specified value, a portion of the hydrogen gas, namely recycled hydrogen, can be released to improve its purity.
Regarding the catalyst, the hydrogen concentration in the hydrogenation process is generally between 80% and 90%; as long as the hydrogen partial pressure meets the requirements of the catalyst, it is sufficient.
