RT: Will it heat up if there is no steam flow?
It is certain that it can heat materials with a lower temperature than its own; it’s just a matter of efficiency. I don’t understand what the original poster meant with this post Could you explain it more clearly?
Generally speaking, as long as there is a temperature difference, heat transfer occurs, that is, there is heating and being heated. I’m not sure what the original poster is asking. If steam is used as a heating medium and allowed to flow, it facilitates heating better, but there are issues related to heat efficiency
Since the steam does not flow, there is essentially no significant heat exchange, making industrial application completely impossible

Here’s what happened: a leak was found at the connection of the pressure transmitter in one of our towers, caused by corrosion. So we decided to shut down that tower for repairs; we closed all the inlet and outlet valves of that tower, as well as the steam supply (and the condensate flow) in order to relieve pressure in the tower and replace the faulty connector. With both the steam inlet and outlet valves closed, we decided to drain all the residual steam from the reboiler by using a backflow valve. However, the manager said that without steam flow, there would be no heating! (Fear of steam leakage from the steam valve in front of the steam control valve)

There is thermal radiation inside the drum, which exchanges heat with the outside through heat conduction across the drum wall. PS: Then there’s no need for a thermally insulated vacuum layer in the thermos bottle. But here, it might really not be necessary to vent steam, as both the inlet and outlet steam pipes are closed. The total heat content of the steam inside is not high; a small amount of steam will gradually turn into condensed water.
It’s the same principle as stagnant air or water in equipment or pipelines

There must be some residual heat for insulation, and of course it will cool down naturally over time. You guys dare to take risks when maintaining the equipment – how much is that little bit of steam worth anyway?
