I noticed that on the PID diagram, there is a balance line from the heat source inlet to the outlet of the reboiler; I’m not sure what its purpose is or when it will be used
It controls the temperature at the bottom of the tower. If the temperature at the bottom of the tower is high, the valve on this pipeline can be opened a little.
Then doesn’t turning down the valve also serve to control the temperature? The function of the balance line might be, during winter shutdowns when steam is not needed for distillation, to act similar to the anti-freezing lines used for circulating water; by opening it after the shutdown, steam is sent back to the outlet to prevent the pipelines from freezing and getting blocked
I agree with going up to the upper two floors. This so-called balance pipe seems inappropriate; the purpose of such piping is to heat the pipes when the vehicle is parked or to prevent freezing, as well as to preheat the pipes downstream when the vehicle is in operation, thereby avoiding water hammer effects after starting the vehicle!
It might be used during winter distillation shutdowns when no steam is needed, serving a similar function to the anti-freezing pipelines for circulating water; after the shutdown, some steam is allowed to flow back to the outlet to prevent the pipelines from clogging
For anti-freezing purposes, there are no valves at the inlet and outlet of the reboiler; using this pipeline for anti-freezing is not as effective as protecting the reboiler itself. Controlled by the existing valves, I think it should work like a level gauge.
