Mineral oil is a transparent petroleum product, but yellow-colored mineral oil is available on the market now – is this really mineral oil? What is used to refine it? Some use lubricating oil as a raw material, while others use diesel. What on earth is going on here?
White oil is produced by using the oils mentioned above as raw materials, undergoing deep hydrogenation to reduce impurities and color to specified levels, after which its grade is determined based on its boiling range.

The difference lies in the viscosity, which determines the grade of the white oil. Jet fuel is roughly equivalent to 3# white oil, while hydrocracked diesel corresponds to 5# white oil. Residue has a viscosity around 15#. Depending on the conditions of each factory, further classifications are possible; there is no strict boundary, and grading is mainly based on viscosity.
Industrial white oil can be obtained by refining raw material paraffin oil through pickling. The production process for white oil typically takes place at temperatures between 350 and 500 degrees, and it is classified based on its viscosity measured at 40 degrees Celsius; common types include 3# white oil, 7# white oil, 15# white oil, 26# white oil, etc.
It is the old three-step process for refining raw clay, but it causes significant pollution; new refineries have already phased it out.
