The industrial technology project for coal-based ethylene glycol passed the evaluation. On March 29, 2011, the **Science and Technology Support Program project titled “Industrial Technology for Coal-Based Ethylene Glycol,” which was organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and led by the Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, passed the evaluation. The project team addressed key issues such as improving the quality stability of catalysts produced on a large scale, effectively controlling the reaction rate and heat transfer in industrial CO catalytic dehydrogenation purification, and enhancing the reaction efficiency of simultaneous CO oxidation and esterification, thereby developing a technology for the large-scale production of catalysts used in coal-based ethylene glycol production ; New high-efficiency catalysts have been developed, providing new technical capabilities for the optimization and upgrading of catalyst technologies used in the production of ethylene glycol from coal ; Through technical scaling up and systematic integration of the 10,000-ton per year pilot-scale technology for coal-based ethylene glycol production, an industrial demonstration plant with a capacity of 200,000 tons per year was established that operates efficiently and stably, producing ethylene glycol products that meet the premium quality standards specified in the national standard (GB4649-93).
