Please explain why, in the refining industry, globe valves are used instead of gate valves for liquefied gas pipelines.
Why aren’t there gate valves? There are gate valves, but they are flat gate valves. There’s also a type of cast-iron gas gate valve, which is usually used in buried installations
Gate valves generally have a certain degree of adjustability, and they can also be designed as flow control plugs with various characteristics – such as fast-opening types, as well as those with linear or equal percentage flow responses. Therefore, in theory, it is more ideal to use a gate valve for shutting off flow under such conditions.
Gate valves are still used more frequently; in the absence of any special requirements, gate valves are the ones chosen. Globe valves are mainly used for regulation and throttling purposes.

I’m not sure where Brother Lou came across this rule; it seems that gate valves are used quite often. Unless a regulating function is required, gate valves are generally the choice
