GB50160 provides the following definition for storage tanks within a process plant: 2.0.18 Storage tanks (groups) within process plant – These are tanks (groups) that, during the normal operation of the plant, do not directly participate in the chemical processes; however, they are installed within the plant due to process requirements, such as the need to balance production, ensure product quality control, or facilitate initial investments. If the design of a fine chemical plant includes two 65-cubic-meter storage tanks for flammable liquids (containing different substances, both classified as Class A/B; they are neither raw materials nor products, but rather intermediate substances that can be reused), is it necessary to enclose these two tanks separately with fire dikes and keep them 9 meters away from the main plant building (which has an open reinforced concrete structure)? What does it mean not to be directly involved in the manufacturing process?
