Similarly, in the 32% circulating alkaline solution coolers, although they also use plate heat exchangers, the plate material here is NI. I’m not sure why this is the case. No, in my case the temperature of the finished alkaline solution is high, ranging from 90 to 45 degrees, while the cooled alkaline solution in the circulation system has a temperature of 70 to 63 degrees – this was designed by the Eighth Research Institute
Since the circulating alkali needs to enter the cell to come into contact with the ion membrane, 310S can actually be used as well.

No iron ions should precipitate in the circulating alkali; otherwise, a second cathode will form on the cathode side of the electrolyzer. For the finished alkali, 310S material can be used, as well as Hastelloy alloys – I’ve never heard of 316L being suitable for this purpose

The higher the temperature and concentration of the alkali, the greater the requirements for the material. Cost is also taken into account when selecting materials; nickel is expensive, but for 30% alkali at 90 degrees, material of type 310S is required at least, with nickel-based materials being even better.
However, a recent project revealed that the finished alkaline solution coolers were made of Hastelloy instead of nickel, and their total cost was even higher than that of nickel. It’s unclear whether nickel wasn’t used due to the neglect of other factors.
I don’t think it’s necessary to use HC; the cost is too high. Using NI is more than sufficient
