There are similar questions to my own in previous posts, but they aren’t the core issue I’m asking about. No one responded to those posts, so I have to post again; I’m asking experts for help once more. When using 3D factory drawing software to design the piping for complex equipment such as compressors, it is necessary to route pipes from their inlet and outlet ports – there are multiple inlet and outlet ports in the case of multi-stage compressors – as well as for pipelines related to cooling water. When creating these piping diagrams, does the design team first model the compressor based on its dimensional specifications, then arrange the pipes, and finally use the software to generate the single-line diagrams? The key question is that if that is the case, then when creating models, should the design institute model them based on the actual shape of the compressor, or use some simpler method? If modeling is usually not required, how do design institutes draw these piping diagrams? I would appreciate it if an expert could give some more guidance. Thank you!
There are those that follow the true shape. Most of them are simplified; it is only necessary to determine the equipment tag numbers and the positions of the pipe openings.

Answer: Yes, the external dimensions should be as accurate as possible for collision checks. But the most important thing is to model the position of the pipe ends with precision, to the millimeter, including the east-west coordinate E, the north-south coordinate N, and the elevation EL. 2. When modeling, does the design institute create models based on the actual shape of the compressor, or does it use some simpler method? Answer: It’s actually just a rough outline; it’s generally difficult and unnecessary to create such precise designs. 3. If modeling isn’t usually required, how do design firms draw these piping diagrams? Answer: Before the existence of PDS, older-generation engineers also carried out large-scale projects, haha. In my opinion, it’s possible to determine the coordinates of the pipe outlets just the same; piping can be arranged without a model as well
