On a whim, I wondered whether the liquid ammonia produced in the ammonia purification unit could be used as a cooling medium for some of the coolers in that same unit (Cycle the heat before delivering it as a product) Everyone is welcome to participate actively in the discussion!
This was included in previous designs; usually, there was one water-cooling system and one ammonia-cooling system in the front third. In actual use, however, ammonia cooling did not work well, which is why it is no longer used in current designs. The main reasons are: first, a large amount of liquid ammonia is used, and generally, the amount available after collection is not sufficient; second, after cooling, liquid ammonia turns into gaseous ammonia, and the pressure of this gas is usually not high enough for direct delivery. Therefore, in previous designs, the gas was sent back to the inlet of the ammonia compressor to increase its pressure, which resulted in high loads on the ammonia compressor – often beyond its capacity. . .
