Can a blind flange on a steam pipeline be drilled to connect another pipe? Has anyone done this before?
1: What steam? Low pressure, medium pressure, or high pressure? 2: What type of blind plate is it – a flanged blind plate, a welded blind plate, or a clamp-type blind plate? 3: If it’s a welded blind plate, it is recommended to cut it off before connecting the pipe. I’m not sure why you need to make an opening to connect the pipe; if it’s for drainage purposes, that’s fine. (For medium and high pressure steam pipes, it’s best to carry out calculations for reinforcement, add a pipe support, and then weld.) I hope this helps you.
What is the form of the blind plate used by the poster? Welded or flanged. It is recommended to use flanges combined with reducing fittings, or flanges of different sizes; this approach is much more reliable than making holes in the blind plate.
