Some space should be reserved at the top of the packed extraction tower for the demulsification of the light phase, and similarly, space should be reserved at the bottom of the tower for the demulsification of the heavy phase. What size should this space be? Is it calculated based on a formula or are there empirical values? Or is it related to the properties of the material? What I do is a process of extracting methanol from gasoline using water, on a small scale. The designed extractor packing layer has a height of 2200 mm and a tower diameter of 350 mm. Gasoline is the dispersed phase, and water is the continuous phase. I checked a lot of sources, but couldn’t find this data. . . In addition to the effective section, the extraction tower should be equipped with upper and lower clarification sections. The general design should be determined based on the two-phase stratification time. If the phase separation time is calculated after mixing, the end time is determined once the two phases have completely separated. Calculate the volume of the clarification stage based on this time.
