Gentlemen, I have received a batch of equipment, one of which is a carbon steel tank with a diameter of 3400. An inner lining made of 2mm thick 254SMO super stainless steel is required for this tank. I was wondering if anyone among you has worked on similar equipment; could you share your insights? It would be best to include the gasketing process and precautions. Thank you.

It can be made using composite panels, or with a stainless steel lining; when applying the lining, holes are drilled in the stainless steel, which is then tack-welded followed by surfacing welding, with the spacing and density of the openings being determined as needed. If flaw detection is required at the grassroots level, the joint design and drilling during lining must take into account the flaw detection process. You can line it first and then shape it, or shape it first and then line it, depending on your specific structure.
It is recommended to use composite panels; 2mm lining plates are prone to deformation during welding, and it’s difficult to determine the appropriate number of spot welds. Additionally, using spot welding requires a significant amount of work

I happened to encounter the same problem as well; I need to build a storage tank with a diameter of 30 meters and a height of 14 meters. It contains a high-temperature medium, at around 560 degrees. My initial idea is to add a corrugated stainless steel lining inside, but I’m not sure how to design this lining. Or how does everyone handle the expansion of this large high-temperature tank?
Holes are made in the stainless steel, and plug welding is performed using dissimilar steel electrodes; corresponding surface inspections should also be carried out. That’s a huge amount of work. So I could ask the design team whether composite steel plates can be used; that would make things much simpler
Use a composite panel. We generally use linings for small nozzles or flanges
Use explosive composite plates – Dalian Dabao, Sichuan Jinglei, or Nanjing Baotai
Explosion-clad plates are used for pressure equipment, in accordance with NB/T47002-2009; this technology is mature and reliable.
